Like I said, some guide dogs have trouble adjusting to a new handler and new lifestyle and everything like that for quite a while. Just keep taking him for walks whenever you can and keep with the same routine as much as you can, being consistent and encouraging and all the rest. I know you probably already know that but as a guide dog user I know where you're coming from so I like to be an encouraging person myself lol! I do feel bad for you about Calvin (keep forgetting the spelling) refusing to work past that barking dog though. What I suggest is that you walk your dog when those distractions are around, and a lot more often. I know that sounds hard, but if you utilise food, petting and sweet-talking and other encouragements while he's working around them, he'll get there. Of course if Calven gets too stressed, stop the avoidance distraction session and start another time because you don't want your training to be countereffective! Best wishes.

MichelleAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8775626180376504552.post-73807290950454419882009-12-07T13:56:55.879-08:002009-12-07T13:56:55.879-08:00BS”D

It’s a new situation for you both and if I’ll be honest I don’t think guide dogs are perfect trained either, he has the basic dog/guide dogs skills but you need to work on the rest. I think you’ll make it because you sound so devoted.

Good Luck!
NadjaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8775626180376504552.post-17573494271380092892009-12-07T09:09:35.696-08:002009-12-07T09:09:35.696-08:00Hi Selina.

I hope you find a suitable park to give him a free run. Are there any other guide dog owners in your area? Do you know where they take theirs?Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10024951762128282021noreply@blogger.com
